Washington Chipotle E. coli Outbreak Update – The Washington State Department of Health (WSDH) announced today that a total of 25 Washington E. coli cases linked to eating at Chipotle have been confirmed. This represents an increase of 6 illnesses since the WSHD announcement on October 31, 2015.
Reported Number Of Washington Chipotle E. coli Cases By County
According to the WSDH, the number of people infected with E. coli by county is as follows: Clark (11), Cowlitz (2), Island (2), King (6), and Skagit (4). Of the 25 cases, 23 reported having been at Chipotle restaurants before getting sick. Nine of the Washington residents were hospitalized. Cases range in age from five-to-60.
Health Officials Update Oregon E. Coli Case Count
In a separate outbreak update from earlier today, the Oregon Health Authority announced that 12 cases of E. coli food poisoning in Oregon were reported in association with the outbreak. Three of those patients required hospitalization as a result of their illness.
As a result of the outbreak, Chipotle has closed about 43 restaurants in Washington and Oregon.
