All American Meats Ground Beef Recall News
On November 1, 2015, All American Meats recalled over 167,427 pounds of ground beef products. This recall was triggered on October 30, 2015, by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service’s (FSIS) discovery of E. coli O157:H7 in a package of All American Meats Ground Beef. The presence of E. coli was originally detected during a “FSIS in-commerce surveillance program”, which was then traced back to an All American Meats facility.
The USDA has classified the All American Meats Ground Beef Recall as a Class I Recall, meaning, “this is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”

About E. coli
Escherichia coli or E. coli is a type of bacterium that lives in the intestines of healthy humans and animals. While many strains of E. coli are harmless, some strains are capable of producing a powerful toxin, known as Shiga toxin, and can cause severe, life-threatening illness. These pathogenic strains of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli are often referred to as “STEC.”
Children and the elderly are at greatest risk for suffering complications resulting from E. coli infection, including hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) and thrombocytopenia purpura (TTP).

Symptoms of E. coli Food Poisoning
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) symptoms of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) infection include severe abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting. The diarrhea may become bloody and can lead to dehydration. There is usually little or no fever. The infection (and its symptoms) will vary from individual to individual, ranging from a mild to a life-threatening illness.

FSIS and the company are concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers’ freezers.
The ground beef items were produced on Oct. 16, 2015. The following products are subject to recall:
• 80-lb. (approximate weight) boxes of “Ground Beef 80% Lean 20% Fat (Fine Grind)” with Sell By Date 11-03-2015 and case code 62100.
• 80-lb. (approximate weight) boxes of “Ground Beef 73% Lean 27% Fat (Fine Grind)” with Sell By Date 11-03-2015 and case code 60100.
• 60-lb. (approximate weight) boxes of “Ground Beef Round 85% Lean 15% Fat (Fine Grind)” with Sell By Date 11-03-2015 and case code 68560.
• 60-lb. (approximate weight) boxes of “Ground Beef Chuck 81% Lean 19% Fat (Fine Grind)” with Sell By Date 11-03-2015 and case code 68160.
• 60-lb. (approximate weight) boxes of “Ground Beef Chuck 81% Lean 19% Fat (Fine Grind)” with Sell By Date 11-03-2015 and case code 63130.
• 80-lb. (approximate weight) boxes of “Ground Beef Chuck 81% Lean 19% Fat (Fine Grind)” with Sell By Date 11-03-2015 and case code 63100.
The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 20420” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.
