Kentucky Woman’s Death Could be Linked with E. coli Food Poisoning

A 47-year-old Knox County woman died last Monday in Lexington, Kentucky, after being hospitalized with symptoms of E. coli food poisoning. Vickie Shelton’s death is being investigated for a possible link to recalled American Foods Group ground beef.

The ground beef recall was issued on November 24. American Foods Group of Green Bay, Wisconsin, recalled almost 96,000 pounds of ground beef for possible E. coli O157:H7 contamination. The recalled ground beef had been distributed in the following states: Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Virginia.

Samples of the ground beef Shelton had reportedly consumed before becoming ill are being tested for E. coli contamination. At least two other cases of E. coli food poisoning connected with American Foods Group recalled ground beef have been reported.
