24 Individuals Sickened With E.coli From Frozen Food Products

Over the past two weeks, Rich Products from Buffalo, NY has issued two recalls.  The First was precautionary, but the second came after there were 24 individuals sickened from 15 states.  The individuals were sickened with E. coli. Symptoms of an E.coli infection include severe abdominal cramps and watery diarrhea. The diarrhea may become bloody and can lead to dehydration. Sometimes there are no symptoms at all. There is usually little or no fever. Symptoms usually resolve in 5-10 days.

The first recall was issued on March 28th.  According to the FDA, this recall included products under the Farm Rich and Market Day brand names such as: mini quesadillas, mini pizza slices, cheese steaks, and mozzarella bites.  All such products were produced in the week of November 12th to November 19th 2012.  The second recall was issued on April 4th and greatly expanded the first.  To see a full list of products currently recalled, product descriptions, and UPC codes, please visit http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm346633.htm .

All products were produced at their Waycross, Georgia plant.  The recalled products were shipped all over the country to retail stores and foodservice facilities.

If you are experiencing E. coli food poisoning symptoms or have a health related question, contact your healthcare professional. He or she can order a stool culture which can confirm E. coli infection. Let your doctor know that you consumed the recalled product.
